I have decided to learn as much Perl as possible over this Christmas break. I am reading the O’reilly book Learning Perl
by Randal L. Schwartz, 5th edition, as well as watching a video course that coincides with the chapters in the book. I’ll be updating the Perl section here as I go, to keep my notes.

AWS Free Usage Tier
I don’t remember what I was searching for, or if I was just googling ramdom subjects, when I ran across the results for “AWS Free Usage Tier“.
Basically, the deal is, if you are a new user you can use a micro instance of an EC2 VM, for free for 1 full year.
I already had an EC2 account from a long time ago that I had logged into, just to see what the fuss was. I racked up a total bill of 11¢. So I paid that and began running a micro instance.
The free usage tier only applies to new accounts, though. So I emailed Amazon customer service and they were able to see my minuscule usage. Since it was basically a new account, they were able to apply the free usage rate.
